Principles of various versions of the binding theory state that the anaphor-antecedent (AA) relation is asymmetric in some way or other. (Chomsky 1986, Pollad and Sag 1992, Reingart and Reuland 1993) Drawing ondata from Korean, Ifirst present some examples that might be said to illustrate the reverse of AA relation. I then argue that they are not real cases of AA reversal, showing that some closely related apparatus conspire to have the AA relations in these examples look reversed. This leads me to propose a theory of fine-grained representation that incorporates interface strategies like the empty topic-operator and the resumptive pronoun strategy and admits an anaphoric nontrace category derived by deletion. The approach taken here thus enables us to keep binding theory as simple as possible.
