This paper presents an Optimality-Theoretic account of multi-patterned reduplication process, not abandoning the basic tenets of Optivality Theory. The investigation of reduplication process in Chamorro and Korean shows that the multiple patterns of reduplication ae the result of violable and rankable constraints interacting with one another without any serial derivation. Therefore, this paper shows that the explanatory adequacy of Optimality Theory can be supported by the evidence from the languages where more than one pattern of reduplication is present as well as from the languages where there is a single pattern of reduplication. It is also shown that the multiple patterns of reduplication in a single language may be exponents of different reduplicative morphemes called REDs. However, all the different shapes of reduplicated forms do not constitute separate reduplicative morphemes. The CV reduplicated infix and suffix in Chamorro and Korean are different instances of the reduplicative suffix morpheme and the CV and CVC reduplicated prefixes in Korean are different instances of the reduplicative prefix morpheme. The total reduplication and the CVC reduplicative suffix in Korean constitute separate reduplicative morphemes. The occurrence of various shapes of reduplication from the same stem may be due to the attachment of different reduplicative morphemes to the same stem.
