This study starts with the recognition of issues in Korean social welfare education as follows : relatively little attention to educational methods; uniformity of education system due to professional qualification criteria, and dependency on practicum only in enhancing practical competency. In this regard, this study proposes Action Learning, the organizational learning method, as an alternative to those problems. For these purposes, we examined the concepts, essential elements, and processes of Action Learning, and reviewed the previous studies related to Action Learning in social work area. In addition, the Action Learning case implemented to social welfare education at a university was presented and analyzed. The participants of the Action Learning class reported that personal mastery was developed, strong teamwork was built, and sense of actual field was increased through Action Learning even though they felt it unfamiliar and difficult. Through these results, we could confirm Action Learning as an alternative method in social welfare education if our learning paradigm is changed and systemic support of university level for the Action Learnig is attained.
