본 연구는 미래 사회 학교교육의 질을 높이기 위한 방안의 일환으로 미래 사회 교육 환경 변화에 적합한 교과서상을 모색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 교과서의 변천 과정을 교과서의 위상과 역할 측면에서 분석 하고, 델파이 조사를 통하여 미래 사회 교육 환경을 대비하는 교과서에 대한 전문가 요구를 분석하였다. 이러한 기초 작업과 요구 조사를 바탕으로 미래 사회 교육 환경 변화에 적합한 교과서의 위상과 역할을 정립하였다. 미래 교과서의 위상은 현재의 위상보다는 낮지만 주요 자료로서의 지위는 유지할 것으로 나타났는데, 이는 미래 교과서의 위상이 현재에 비해 약화되지만 학습 내용과 방향을 제시하는 기준 역할을 한다는 점에서 그 위상이 크게 위축되지는 않음을 의미한다. 다음으로 미래 교과서는 교과서의 보편적, 본질적 기능 및 역할을 유지할 것으로 나타났으며, 이를 교육과정, 교수자, 학습자 측면으로 구분하여 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교 육과정 관련 역할로는 수업을 위한 기본 학습 내용과 활동의 기준 제시, 교육의 질을 일정 수준 유지하는 제도 적 장치, 교사가 교육과정을 해석할 수 있도록 돕는 교사용 교재, 학습자의 성취를 평가할 수 있는 근거 제시, 그리고 교육과정에 제시된 학습 내용 전달로 나타났다. 둘째, 교수자 측면의 역할은 다양한 교수·학습 자료의 선택 및 개발에 필요한 안내서, 교수·학습의 아이디어 제공, 그리고 교수·학습 방법의 혁신 유도로 나타났다. 마지막으로 학습자 측면의 역할은 학습자에게 필수 지식과 정보 제공, 학습자의 능력이나 특성을 고려한 학습 내용 제공, 그리고 학습자의 자기 주도적 학습 지원으로 나타났다.
The purposes of this study are to explore the status and roles of textbook in the future society in accordance with educational changes. The content of this study comprises two parts: 1) analyzing the history of the textbook policy through examining the status and functions of textbooks, 2) investigating and analyzing the social demands on textbook through expert Delphi survey. Main results of the study are as follows: the status of textbooks of the future will be slightly decreased than the current status, but it is assumed to maintain the status as a major teaching and learning material at schools. Next, textbooks of the future will presumably maintain their universal and natural functions and roles. The roles of textbooks of the future can be drawn from three different aspects; curriculum, teachers, and learners. In respect to curriculum-related roles, textbooks will be used as a standard indicator for the basic learning content and activities, an institutional means to assure quality in education, an instrument for evaluating learners’ achievement, a faculty guide for interpretations and delivery of national curriculum and so on. In regard to teacher-related roles, textbooks are regarded as a guidebook to select and develop a variety of teaching and learning materials, provision of ideas for exploring teaching and learning methods, and deriving innovation in teaching and learning implementation. Concerning the learner-related roles, textbooks will provide the required knowledge and information to learners, present learning content based on considerations about learners’ characteristics and abilities, and support learners’ self-directed learning.
