The purpose of the study is to develop a curriculum for the librarian assistant task
and to investigate the effect of application of it to the high school students with
intellectual disabilities. Four high school students who were attending at the special
class of high schools of Chungnam province participated in this study for eight
months. The curriculum for librarian assistant tasks has been developed in
consideration of the developmental disabilities characteristics, review of previous
research, vocational basic competency and professional competency suggested by
National Competency Standards(NCS). The vocational basic competency is classified
with basic technical skills and common technical skills and is developed into eight
domains in this study. The basic technical skills were classified into 4 domains and
divided into eight sub-domains, and were implemented for 26 weeks(320
hours)-curriculum. The results of the study are as follows: Firstly, the performance
of the participants was improved in book-array performance of librarian assistants
task, secondly, the educational performance by the individual educational plan was
also improved in 5 sub-domains, and thirdly, four of the participants(75%) were
employed in elementary school libraries and in a public library. These results shows
that the developed librarian assistant curriculum is proper librarian assistants
educational curriculum for the students with developmental disabilities.
