The purpose of this study is to examine the mediation effects of 'Meaning in life' on the link between
optimism and psychological well-being by analyzing responses from 544 (403 males and 141 females) office
workers located in 63 companies in Korea. The LOT-R(Life Orientation Test-Revised), MLQ(Meaning in Life
Questionnaire), and PWBS(Psychological Well-Being Scale) were used. In analyzing data, this study used
PASW(Predictive Analytics SoftWare) Statistics 18.0 and statistical methods such as t-test, correlation analysis,
regression analysis, and Sobel test.
The main results were as follows:
First, there were significant positive relationships among optimism, psychological well-being, and Meaning in life
in office workers sample. Second, office workers statistically showed significant partial mediating effects in Meaning
in life on relation between optimism and psychological well-being. The findings identify the importance of
Meaning in life as a mediator that can be the target of intervention for office workers. By targeting the
mediating factor, the intervention goal might be drawn to help office workers explore and pursue their Meaning
in life.
