University museums were operated focusing on academic area in the 1970s and
1980s, but beginning in the 1990s, as some limitations have been placed on the
excavation of buried cultural assets, they have been operated focusing on education
area.
Chungbuk National University Museum operates cultural study class, special class,
museum college general course, museum college advance course, middle school free
semester program, and other programs. Especially, ‘museum college,’ an educational
program set up for ordinary people in 1995 and has marked the 20th anniversary this
year. ‘Museum college’ is a high-class cultural study class recognized by the
community. As Korea has turned into an aging society, the number of students
enrolling in the class has increased and the age of the students are going up. Museum
college is inducing the active participation of the students through the operation of
‘museum college alumni association’ and ‘museum college council.’ In order to mark
its 20th anniversary in 2014, it held a special exhibition along with ceremony with its
students.
University museums need to overcome the difficulty of existence crisis and make
them recognized at home and abroad through educational programs in the future.
