The purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness of group art therapy on adolescents’
self-esteem, self-efficacy and career attitude maturity. For this study, Twenty(20) female students of
an academic highschool located in Seoul were assigned into two different data groups. Ten(10)
students were assigned to the Experimental Group(EG) and the other ten(10) were assigned to the
Control Group(CG). EG was treated with twelve(12) sessions of group art therapy for two or three
times a week. For CG, no other treatments were provided. EG and CG were both evaluated by the
Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale(RSES), the Self-Efficacy Scale(SES) and Career Attitude Maturity
Inventory(CAMI) before and after the group art therapy treatment. The results indicated that EG
showed a significant increases in RSES and SES scores. Although CAMI for EG, however, its total
scores were increased, there were no significant changes statistically. CG showed no significant
changes in all three evaluation scores; RSES, SES, and CAMI. To integrate the research results,
group art therapy was proved to have positive effects on adolescents’ both self-esteem and
self-efficacy. Since CAMI, however, results from cumulatively established self-identity and
self-understanding, the CAMI was found difficult to change in a short period of time even when there
were changes in self-conception.
