The recycling and stabilization process of municipal, industrial and other kinds of wastes developed by Institute for Advanced Engineering(IAE) and DAEWOO a E&C combines degassing with fixed bed oxygen blown gasification and melting of mineral residues. The process permits the continuous conversion of solid wastes into usable raw materials : synthesis gas, recovered vitrified mineral product. Using municipal solid wastes from Y city in Kyungnam province, operating results show that synthesis gas exhibits concentrations of about 25-30% CO, 25-35% H₂ and 25-40% CO₂(moisture free basis). Produced slag proved to remain as a stable compound that doesn't exhibit any leaching of heavy metals, and thus yielding no secondary pollutant problems related to the leaching. This study yielded useful operating experience and process engineering data and provided engineering reliability for the design of future scale-up plants and an important reference for further application in Korea.
