The purpose of the study is to examine the role of an Ethics teacher at an elementary
school, based on one of the most significant concepts discussed in Dewey’s Theories of
Education – Transaction. Dewey explains that Transaction involves more than just reciprocal
action between subjects and objects, and that it also considers reconstitution of the whole
subjects. When applied in education in real situation, it could be shown that teachers and
students were influencing of each other while interchanging their roles as subjects or objects.
With this in mind, it can be assumed that every trait of a teacher is being presented as an
object for a student (subject). Therefore, a teacher must him/herself be the embodiment of
ethical Transaction and consequently the subject for students, in addition to being a role
model of ethical Transaction for the students to refer to.
