본 연구의 목적은 듀이의 교육이론 중에서 중요한 개념으로 논의되는 교변작용을 통해 초 등학교 도덕교사의 역할을 알아보는 것이다. 듀이가 말하는 교변작용은 주체와 대상 간에 단 순히 상호작용 하는 것을 넘어 주체의 총체가 재구성되는 것까지 염두에 둔 개념이다. 그리 고 이 교변작용을 교육의 실천사태에서 확인해 보면 교사와 학생이 주체와 대상의 역할을 바 꾸어가며 영향을 미치는 상황으로 나타난다. 이런 점을 염두에 두면 교사의 모든 모습은 학 생(주체)의 대상으로 작용하는 것을 유추할 수 있다. 그렇기 때문에 교사는 스스로가 도덕적 교변작용의 구현체가 되어 학생의 대상으로 작용해야 하며 더불어 교사의 도덕적 교변작용이 학생이 모방할 수 있는 모범의 역할을 해야 한다.
The purpose of the study is to examine the role of an Ethics teacher at an elementary school, based on one of the most significant concepts discussed in Dewey’s Theories of Education – Transaction. Dewey explains that Transaction involves more than just reciprocal action between subjects and objects, and that it also considers reconstitution of the whole subjects. When applied in education in real situation, it could be shown that teachers and students were influencing of each other while interchanging their roles as subjects or objects. With this in mind, it can be assumed that every trait of a teacher is being presented as an object for a student (subject). Therefore, a teacher must him/herself be the embodiment of ethical Transaction and consequently the subject for students, in addition to being a role model of ethical Transaction for the students to refer to.
