This study was to investigate the effects of the social skill training program on
dealing with emotion skills such as self-management of anger, self-expression for
feelings, expression of affection toward others for the children with autism spectrum
disorder(ASD) by using the multiple probe design across children.
The subjects of the study were three children with ASD aging ten-year old
children attending special education class at the regular elementary school. It was to
improve dealing skills of their emotions, especially self-management of anger,
self-expression for feelings, expression of affection toward others.
The social skill training programs were consisted of four steps: operational
definitions of social skills, example study by watching video film, situational role-play
learning, and recording of the natural practice training.
The performance rates of verbal and nonverbal skills for the three types of dealing
with emotions were collected for proving functional relationships between dependent
variables and independent variables.
The results of the study showed that the social skill training program improved
self-management of anger, self-expression for feelings, expression of affection toward
others.
