This research examined the experiences of professional counselors to describe their perceptions of the characteristics of master counselors. Master counselors were defined as the counselors who have been fully educated in the field, obtained the certificate at the master's level and sucessfully supervised counselors at the training levels. Descriptive phenomenological methods proposed by A. Giorgi were sed for the analysis of experiences of 6 counselor. The study derived 316 meaning units, which were summarized as 64 meaning units. 12 sub-categories and 4 constitutional elements emerged as essential meanings. Within each domain, four categories were identified: Human-nature Domain consists of ‘congruence/accepting respect’, ‘righteous and warm world-view’, ‘acceptance and altruism’, and ‘stable relational skills and instrumental role’. Cognitive Domain consists of ‘constantly studying learner’, and ‘growth-promoting career path’.
Emotional Domain consists of ‘emotional well-being/ spiritual effort’, ‘self-reflection/ internal value’, and ‘self-care preventing from a burn-out’. Professional Domain consists of ‘professional identify’, ‘formulation of counseling techniques’, and ‘sufficient counseling experience over 10-20years’.
