This study was conducted to investigate how Storytelling Grandmothers’ story delivery capability
and language teaching efficacy impact their interactions with young children. The surveys were
carried out to Storytelling Grandmothers who served at kindergartens or daycare centers in
metropolitan area, Gangwondo, Gyeongsangdo, Jeonlado and Chungcheongdo areas, also affiliated at
the Korean Studies Advancement Center. Totally 439 questionnaires were analyzed.
The key results of this research is as follows: firstly, Storytelling Grandmothers’ story delivery
capability, language teaching efficacy, and interactions with children showed noticeable differences
depending on their former career in the field of education. Furthermore, their level of education
made differences to their language teaching efficacy and interactions with children, while older
participants showed higher level of language teaching efficacy. Secondly, all the sub-factors of
Storytelling Grandmothers’ story delivery capability, language teaching efficacy, and their interactions
with children were positively correlated each other. Thirdly, Storytelling Grandmothers’ story delivery
capability had great impact on their interaction with children, and their language teaching efficacy
also affected on the interaction.
