과학적 소양이 과학교육 목표로서의 역할을 하려면 그 개념이나 정의가 중요하다. 그러나 그 개념이나 정의는 많은 연구자 들에 의해 소개되었음에도 불구하고 의미의 명확성은 아직 확보하지 못하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 과학적 소양 관련 최근 연구 물에 인용된 참고문헌의 빈도를 기초로 과학적 소양의 개념이나 정의의 내용을 분석하는 것이다. 2009에서 2012년까지 ERIC 자료에서 관련 논문에 수록된 개별 참고문헌에 대하여 환산인용빈도치를 조작적으로 정의하였다. 이 결과 가장 높은 환산인용 빈도치를 보이는 여덟 개의 문헌이 추출되었다. 그 후, 이 문헌들의 내용을 각 연구물이 주장하는 과학적 소양의 개념이나 정 의 요소와 근거, 그리고 의의 또는 제안을 토대로 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 과학적 소양의 개념이나 정의에 대한 연구 내용 을 두 가지로 분류할 수 있었는데, 하나는 궁극적으로 과학교육과정의 개선을 의도한 측면에서 이루어진 연구이고, 다른 하나 는 과학적 소양 의미의 명확성을 얻기 위하여 그 다양성을 분류하려는 것이었다. 둘째, 교육과정 그룹은 과학지식이 적용되고 전이되는 맥락의 중요성을 강조하고 있으며, 분류 그룹은 과학적 소양의 요소 특성에 따른 분류를 다양하게 시도하고 있었다. 환산인용빈도치의 비중을 고려할 때, 결과적으로 과학적 소양 개념에 대한 연구는 과학지식이 일상생활과 사회 과학적 이슈에 적용하고 전이되어야함을 강조하는 방향으로 진행되고 있었다.
The concept or definition of scientific literacy is important for its role as a goal in science education. Nevertheless the concept or definition has been advocated differently in plenty of researches, so the clarification of the meaning of scientific literacy have not been reached. The objective of this study is to find out current research contents of scientific literacy concepts in the literatures showing the high frequencies cited in related articles. Conversion frequency citing index was defined and applied to references in the articles published in 2009-2012 from ERIC data. In this process, eight references were collected as high conversion frequency citing indices. The contents of these references were analysed in view of scientific literacy concept or definition elements, the backgrounds, and significance or implication. The results are as follows. First, two research groups of scientific literacy concepts were recognized. The one group is approaching from the science curriculum point of view, the other from classification of various elements of scientific literacy. Second, curriculum group is asserting the importance of the contexts to which science knowledge is applied or transferred. Third, classification group classifies scientific literacies using constituting elements of scientific literacy. Concludingly the dominant current research group of scientific literacy concepts is emphasizing the contexts that science knowledge is applied and transferred in everyday life and socioscientific issues.
