이 연구는 기후변화와 관련된 신문기사 분석을 통해 얻을 수 있는 시사점을 바탕으로 하여 신문기사를 활용한 기후변화 교육의 가능성과 신문기사를 활용한 초등학교 기후변화 교육 방안을 탐색하고자 하였다. 기 후변화 관련 신문기사를 분석한 결과, 국내 5대 신문사의 경우 기후변화 원인과 현상보다는 기후변화 영향과 대응에 대한 기사를 더 많이 게시하였다. 기후변화 내용 영역별 분석 결과, 원인 영역에서는 인위적 요인을, 현상 영역에서는 온실효과와 지구온난화를, 영향 영역에서는 환경적 영향을, 대응 영역에서는 기후변화에 대 한 적응보다는 완화에 대한 내용을 비중 있게 다루고 있었다. 신문기사를 활용한 초등학교 기후변화 교육 방 안으로 다음을 제안한다. 첫째, 기후변화에 대한 최신의 정보를 담고 있는 신문기사를 학생 수준에 맞게 재구 성하여 제시하고, 원인, 현상, 영향, 대응의 영역별 균형을 갖춘 기후변화 교육이 이루어질 수 있도록 한다. 둘째, 신문기사 내용과 사진, 통계 자료를 활용하여 탐구 및 토론, 조사 등 다양한 형태의 학생 활동이 가능하 도록 하고, 이를 통해 기후변화 문제에 대한 탐구와 문제해결력을 기를 수 있도록 한다. 셋째, 다양한 관점으로 기후변화를 다룬 신문기사를 활용하여 초등학생들의 기후변화에 대한 종합적이고 체계적인 이해를 돕고, 기후 변화에 대한 지속적인 관심을 가질 수 있도록 교육하는 것이 필요하다.
The objective of this study is to explore for the possibility of climate change education using newspaper articles regarding the matter and how to apply it to elementary school class. For the study, we analyzed newspaper articles regarding climate change and found out that 5 major newspapers focused more on impacts and responses of climate change rather than causes and phenomena. We analyzed the newspaper articles by four different categories, such as causes, impacts, responses and phenomena. The result shows that the press focus mostly on artificial causes, environmental effects, greenhouse effect and global warming, and the relaxation of climate change rather than adaptation to it, for each category. As a result of this study, we propose the followings for climate change education of elementary school using newspaper articles. Offer the balanced articles with each category, which contain the latest information and are revised to the level of students. Organize various types of student activities such as research and discussion by using statistical data and photographs contained in the articles. Help students to understand the climate change issue comprehensively with the articles of various perspectives and to find out the clue of solution to the climate change problem in real life.
