This study aims to examine the effect of art-related career exploring program
on the career maturity of high school art students by developing the art-related
career exploring program, and applying it to actual field. In recent year, policies
that enhance career education are implemented for school setting by government in
a variety of ways. In the perspective of career development theory, career
development takes a place in whole life by following individual development. In
this sense, it is important that students need to be educated to combine career
awareness, career decision-making capacity and solving skills in a period of high
school. Based on this theoretical background, this study has developed a career
exploring program through the art curriculum for students in art high school.
The program consisted of courses for students to understand themselves, and
explore the objective information about art-related career through art curriculum. In
order to examine the effectiveness of the program, it has been applied to 79 first
grade students of the art high school. Those students participated to art class of
creating “My career story” portfolio. For collecting date for analysis of the result,
career maturity test developed by the Korea Research Institute for Vocational
Education & Training was used and this test was conducted before and after the
class to analyze the result of the program and verify the significance of this
study. As a result, this study shows the experimental group had a statistically
significant difference in a career maturity score and this result suggests the
necessity of developing various programs related career education for students.
