현대사회는 세계화 정보화 시대이다. 지식 전달중심의 교육은 넘쳐나는 정보와 지식들을 대처하기 어렵다. 오늘날 사회에서는 학습자들에게 지식자체의 습득보다는 지식을 조작하여 필요한 지식이나 정보를 재구성 하는 능력의 개발을 요구하고 있다. 이러한 지식과 정보들을 조작하고 문제를 해결하는 능력을 키우기 위 한 노력은 미술과 교육과정에서도 강조하고 있다. 이러한 흐름에 비추어 학습자의 정보조작능력이나 문제 해결능력과 같은 고차적 능력을 신장시키기 위한 교육적 노력으로 학습자 중심의 자기 주도적 학습에 대 한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 미술에서의 학습자 중심교육의 진정한 의미를 살펴보고 이 를 통한 우리의 전통문양의 의미를 이해해보는 교육 방안을 모색하고자 한다. 그 방법으로 첫째, 자기 주 도적 학습으로서의 학습자중심교육의 의미를 검토하고, 둘째, 우리의 전통문양의 종류와 의미 등을 알아보 고, 셋째, 학습자 중심교육에 기반 하여 우리의 전통문양을 이해할 수 있고 교육현장에서 적용 가능한 교 육 프로그램을 제시하였다. 여기에서 제시한 교육 프로그램을 통하여 기대되는 효과는 첫째, 학습자가 모 든 과정에서 주도적으로 활동하기 때문에 주인 의식을 가지고 흥미 있게 참여하게 된다. 둘째, 활동 과정 속에서 일어나는 어려움을 동료와 교사와의 상호작용을 통해 해결할 수 있다. 셋째, 생활과 관련된 주제들 을 통하여 전통미술을 우리의 일상생활 속에서 이해하고 적용할 수 있게 된다. 표현과정에서 학생들은 전 통문화에 대한 이해와 더불어 나와 다른 친구들의 생각을 알고 이해하고 존중하는 시간들을 가질 수 있었 다. 이러한 자기 주도적 학습을 통하여 우리 전통미술의 의미와 아름다움을 알고 나아가 우리 문화에 자긍 심을 갖는 계기가 되기를 바란다.
Internationalization and information-oriented age are the main characteristics of modern society. Nowadays, certain ways of the cramming method of teaching cannot guarantee our students to orient themselves in the flood of information and knowledge. Modern society requires our children to develop their ability to adapt certain information and knowledge as needed, which is also required in various fields of art education. Therefore, in the flow of art education, self-directed learning method has been attracting our attention to raise our students’ ability to solve their problem regarding how to accommodate information more effectively. In my study, I focus on the true meaning of self-directed learning method in art by presenting various ways of how we can make students understand the meaning of traditional Korean patterns. First of all, I examine the true meaning of self-directed learning method. Secondly, I present the result of my research of the categories of traditional Korean patterns. Thirdly, I present certain adaptable educational programs of traditional Korean patterns based on self-directed learning method. The main expected effects through those programs are as follows. Firstly, the learner can participate in the programs actively with the consciousness of master based on self-directed learning method. Secondly, the learner can cooperate with the teacher and other learners when faced with difficulties. Lastly, students can understand the true meaning of traditional Korean art and adapt it in their own modern way under certain subjects related to our daily lives. In the process of experimenting with their ways of expression, they certainly had a great time, understanding traditional Korean art and culture, respecting other participants’ perspective. I expect that those programs can make them know about the beauty of traditional Korean art and feel proud of it through the process of self-directed learning method.
