우리 사회는 실력주의 사회에 관련하여 1) 실력주의사회는 공정하고 바람직한 사회라는 믿음, 2) 우리사회는 실력주의사회가 아니라는 믿음, 3) 학벌을 타파하면 실력주의 사회가 구현될 것이라는 믿 음, 그리고 4) 실력주의 사회가 구현되면 사교육, 과도한 경쟁 등의 문제가 해결되고, 궁극적으로 인성 교육이 꽃을 피워 바람직한 세계시민이 길러질 것이라는 믿음을 가지고 있다. 우리사회는 이러한 믿 음에 근거해 보다 완벽한 실력주의사회를 구현하기 위해 애를 써왔지만 사회의 갈등과 빈부격차를 비 롯한 교육전쟁과 사교육비 등 제반 문제는 더욱 악화되어가고 있다. 이 연구는 실증 데이터와 주제와 관련된 문헌연구를 통해 이러한 제반 문제가 실력주의 사회의 그림자임을 보여준다. 그리고 실력 형 성에서 개인의 순수 노력이 차지하는 비중이 얼마나 낮은가를 보여줌으로써 실력을 기준으로 사회적 재화를 배분하는 것이 바람직하다는 믿음 또한 신화임을 입증한다. 이 연구는 우리교육이 안고 있는 문제의 뿌리를 새롭게 인식하도록 함으로써 교육관련 문제를 완화시키고, 우리 교육이 미래사회가 필 요로 하는 사회구성원을 성공적으로 길러낼 수 있도록 유도하는 새로운 패러다임 도출의 출발점이 될 것이다.
With regard to the meritocracy, our society has the four major myths as follows: 1) Meritocracy is fair and desirable society. 2) Our society is not the meritocracy. 3) If the credential society is in a state of total collapse, meritocracy functions better in this society. 4) If the Meritocracy is completed, the problem of excessive competition and private education will be alleviated, and ultimately, education of humanism will be blossomed, and finally, the positive global citizens will be raised based on this desirable climate. Based on these myths, our society has made every effort in order to complete the meritocracy, however a variety of problems such as social conflict, social gap between the rich and the poor, education war and private education are getting worse and worse. Actually, this study demonstrates that these various problems are the shadow of meritocracy through the empirical data and the literature review. And this study also proves that it is another myth to believe that it is desirable to allocate the social goods through the individual merit(ability+effort), by showing that how much weight the pure individual effort is to shape his whole merit. This study will contribute to relieve the educational problems by providing the new horizon of knowledge to arouse the fundamental cause of our educational climate. Eventually, Our education will be the starting point for deriving new paradigm that can successfully raise the future community members.
