This study aims to find out the ideas on the materials development for elementary school students to improve English speaking ability. To this chapter two examined the definitions and the procedures of speaking ability, and reviewed what principles teaching methods have cultivated speaking ability on. Chapter three analyzed the speaking parts of three elementary English textbooks to find out the extent that they take into account the features of speaking. Chapter four examined the status quo the ideas the studies and the researches up to date suggested to improve language speaking are reflected in our elementary English textbooks, and showed out some examples of their problems to improve the tasks and activities. Based on the result, some suggestions are presented as follows: first, speaking materials should provide opportunities for learners to use the authentic language through a variety of tasks. Second, speaking materials allow for learner’s choices provided in a number of different ways, considering their affective individual properties. Third, they expose learners to authentic data of language which help learners deal with the interactive and real-time nature of conversation. Lastly speaking materials encourage learners confidence to speak English as an intercultural speaker without being bound the native standard.
