This study investigated the Korean elementary pre-service teachers’ experiences while participating in synchronous CMC with Taiwanese students. Skype was used to connect Korean elementary pre-service teachers and Taiwanese students who were studying English in Taiwan. The primary data sources included recordings of these Skype conversations and the pre-service teachers’ reflection papers after participating in the Skype activity. The findings indicated that the first-hand experiences of talking to foreigners via Skype provided the pre-service teachers with the opportunities to understand such technology tools as one of the instructional tools that they can use in their future classrooms.
본 연구는 한국 초등 예비 교사가 대만에서 영어를 공부하고 있는 학생들과 동시성 컴퓨터 매개 통신 활동에 참여한 경험을 조사하였다. 동시성 컴퓨터 매개 통신 활동의 수단으로 스카이프를 선택하였으며, 이 연구의 주 데이터는 대만 학생들과 대화한 스 카이프 녹음 파일과 예비 교사들이 작성한 반성적 사고 일지이다. 대만 학생들과의 실 제 스카이프 활동은 예비 교사들에게 스카이프 같은 컴퓨터 기술을 교사가 되었을 때 직접 사용해 볼 수 있는 효과적인 교육적 도구로 인식하는 계기를 제공해 주었기에, 교사 양성 기관에서 좋은 시사점을 준다.
