Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of mother's psychological control and
father's communication on the adolescents' depression. Methods: The questionnaire survey was conducted in
March, 2016 to 511 third-graders at middle school in the southern and the northern part of Seoul.
Collected data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, descriptive statistic, correlation analysis, and
multiple regression analysis. Results: As a result, first, adolescents talk more with their mother than their
father. But the more time they talk with their father, the less they feel depression. Second, mother's
psychological control was the significant predictor to explain adolescents' depression. Third, father's
functional communication was greatly the significant predictor to explain adolescents' depression. Fourth, in
the analysis of the dysfuncational communication types of their fathers, only distracting stance had
statistically significant effect on the adolescents' depression negatively. Conclusions: In conclusion, to control
adolescents' depression, mother's psychological control, father's functional communication, and distracting
communication type of father are important factors
