The concept of Source Community, which originated from the western museums, can be defined as people or a group of descendants who are the owner of materials that the museum houses. Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian is a great example for taking a very first step to build collaboration between the museum and Source Community. Ultimately, through the idea of Source Community, the study lays a great emphasis on the relationship between the museum and Source community created collaboratively on an equal footing. Furthermore, the necessity of discussing the role of Source Community is appreciated by interpreting the museum collection as community culture including primitives and natives. The study suggests the concept of Source Community, methodology regarding typological analysis of display with collaboration and integrated collection management.
