The purpose of this study was to examine the participation of parents with infants and
Kindergarteners in the city of Busan in the childcare support center, their satisfaction
level, their usage of the center as local resources and needs for the center in an effort
to provide some information on the improvement of the operating efficiency of the
childcare support center in Busan. The subjects in this study were 434 parents in
kindergartens and daycare centers located in Busan. The collected data were analyzed
by a statistical package SPSS 18.0, and frequency analysis and descriptive analysis by
group were conducted. Statistical data on mean and standard deviation were obtained,
and chi-square test was utilized in consideration of the parent variables.
The findings of the study were as follows: First, the awareness of the parents who
raised infants or Kindergarteners was analyzed, and 34.3 percent of them replied they
knew about the center. 65.7 percent answered they didn't. So whether there would be
any differences between the two groups was analyzed, and there were significant
difference according to academic credential, whether to be a double-income family or
not, and the number of child. Second, regarding their usage of the childcare support
center and satisfaction level, they made the most use of information provided by the
website, and they were most satisfied with the children's library and checking out books
and audiovisual materials. Third, as to P.R. methods for boosting the usage of the
childcare support center, childcare facilities were the most common ways to promote the
center, and the Internet was the most dominant way to offer and use information on
child education. Fourth, in regard to needs for the childcare support center, they asked
for information on childcare facilities when their informative needs were analyzed. In
terms of needs for counseling, they called for counseling by specialists. In terms of
needs for childcare support, they asked for hands-on play programs.
