The purpose of this study was to suggest the alternatives of family counseling focusing on the
problems of Korean families through the analysis about demographic statistics, the tendencies of
family structural, functional changes and characteristics of diverse family types. The results of this
study are as follows: There have been considerable changes on the aspects of family size, types,
structure and function. The phenomenons of low marriage rate, birthrate and high divorce rate
bring the diverse family problems like as conflicts of family members, confusion of family identity,
the weakness of reference power and distortion of family values. For the restructuring of family
function and integrating family members as alternatives of diminishing family problems, family
counseling have to be reinforced through the methods of revelation of potentiality of family
members, development of family resources, overcoming of intensified family experiences and
establishing of support system.
