This case study was designed to apply food art therapy to Bowen's family counseling for a child
with selective mutism. The purpose of this study was to improve his interpersonal relationship and
self-expression. A total of 17 sessions were held once a week starting in August 2016, and 50∼90
minutes of sessions were held per session. The results of the counseling case study were analyzed
quantitatively and qualitatively. In the quantitative analysis, anxiety and depression were lowered,
and self-esteem, friendship, and family relations were improved. In the qualitative analysis, IP was
very depressed and the eye contact and verbal communication were impossible at the initial stage.
However, at the middle and late stages, self-expression in schools and homes was increased and
interpersonal relationships with friends were improved.
