This study established research questions as below. First, to reorganize the Korean
elementary school mathematics textbooks, especially 'symmetry' on the basis of
Waldorf education methods. Second, to contribute to arouse students' interest in
mathematics and help them recognize the value of mathematics.
For these questions, we developed new teaching materials focused on waldorf
education methods and adapted it to the elementary 5-th grade students in 7 time
classes. Finally we analyzed the results of classes and responses of students.
The implications of this study are as follows. Firstly, students could naturally
understand symmetry through class activities on the basis of education methods of
Waldorf School. Secondly, elementary school students could realize the value of
mathematics and positive recognition toward mathematics. Lastly, it is needed to
suggest several types of figures by supplementing the contents of mathematics
textbooks.
