This study suggests application of physical computing using Arduino for students to develop
computational thinking in public elementary school setting as a regular curriculum. In this study,
curriculum of computer science related subjects’ are analyzed to apply physical computing using
Arduino. Contents of computer science related subjects’ curriculum is redesigned to perform a
physical computing class which is suitable for elementary students. The study compares and
analyses the differences of students’ learning achievements and interests between classes conducted
an original curriculum and revised physical computing curriculum. Through the study using
independent samples t-test, analyzed results help to make a decision about the hypotheses that
physical computing class affects improving students’ learning achievement while keep their interests
in learning the subject.
