As the 2009 revised curriculum is applied, containing the particulate nature of matter for 5, 6th is
the most important change in the elementary science textbook. This study analyzed students view
of matter after studying the units that contained the particulate nature of matter and its effects.
The objects of research were 5, 6th elementary school students in Gyeonggi province. They
participated the pre-test before studying the units that contained the particulate nature of matter,
the post-test after studying and the delayed-test after 4-month. Analyzed the delayed-test, 3 or 4
students of each group had an interview. The units were “Dissolution and Solution” in 5th grade
and “Various gases” in 6th. First, after learning the units that contained the particulate nature of
matter, most students had particulate view and they solved the scientific questions with particulate
view. Second, students still had particulate view several months later, their levels had no difference
with the levels after learning immediately. Last, the particulate view spreaded to the other states of
matter they didn’t learn.
