The aim of this study intends to seek practical application of PIE system during case management
assessment phase. The practice can only have its practical significance through having consented
communication within the same professional field since intake, assessment, intervention, planning, during
initial phase are important factors reaching intended results of case management. Problems that occur
during case management within the fields of social welfare in Korea are conceptional misunderstandings,
lack of models, and diversion of perspective between experts, which originates in the lack of consented
assessment tool in the early stage of case management. American social welfare fields as well had been
putting effort in order to overcome such problems by developing PIE system and numerating problem
severity, problem duration, client coping capacity and communication within the social work profession. In
order to apply case management assessment in the fields of social welfare in Korea, we recruited a
team of FGI experts and applied the method of PIE system. It resulted that such application required
modification of model to fit in Korean field, holistic approach of catagolized assessment, simplifying
provisions of PIE system itself, division of method and adjustment of manuals. Subject matter- unified
assessment tool, viewpoint of client' strength, consented communication, important factors prior to actual
case management. The application of PIE system will be practical use of the case management in the
fields of social welfare in Korea.
