This study is designed to verify the effect of the integrative bibliotherapy program on the social skill
promotion for the borderline intellectual functioning children in elementary schools. The program in this
study is the integrative bibliotherapy program made of not only reading therapy but also techniques using
various means such as narrative therapy, expressive art therapy and play therapy. The children for this
study were recommended by homeroom teachers teaching 1st graders and 2nd graders in two elementary
schools among the children who showed the mal-adjustment in school life and peer relations. Among
them, 7 children were selected for the study who had the intelligence of 70-85 according to
Korean-Wechsler Intelligence Scale(K-WISC-IV). The integrative bibliotherapy program was conducted on
them to find out the effect of the program on social skill promotion. The findings of the study showed
that the program has a significant effect on the social skill promotion to 7 borderline intellectual
functioning children. It was also found that the program has a significant effect on the sub factors of
social skills such as cooperation and self assertiveness but it has no statistically significant effect on
sympathy and self-control. Based on the findings, the significance of this study, its limitation and
follow-up studies were discussed.
