This study is a methodological research that sought to develop and apply a computer program and
standard treatment guideline for the administration of patients suffering from an adverse reaction to contrast
medium for Computed Tomography(CT). Our second goal was to improve the quality of safe nursing care
service by preventing side effects during re-inspection through the systematic management of the data about
the patients who are using contrast medium. As a summary of the present research, the computer program
for the administration of patients suffering from an adverse reaction to contrast medium and the standard
treatment guidelines for administration developed and applied in this research prove to be very effective in
terms of providing a safe nursing care service. In particular, they contribute to the reduction of an adverse
reaction rate among patients with a case history. Furthermore, using the developed patient registration
program for CT scanning makes it possible to accumulate the information about both the patients who
experience the first occurrence of an adverse reaction and those who have a case history after wards, the
patients with a case history of an adverse reaction can be screened by the computer program. Radiology
department nurses can reduce an adverse reaction through appropriate pre-treatment in accordance with the
standard treatment guidelines before inspection. Further expected contributions of the results of our study
include improvement of the quality of safe care service, hospitalization days enhancing cost effectiveness
and efficiency of administration and computer management system, as well as boosting the quality of
clinical decision making the EMR program.
