Psychiatric emergency problems tended to repeat without proper care and theses could cause several
significant bad results. We developed new emergency department (ED) based emergent psychiatric care
system and operated from August, 2013 at single academic ED. The objective of this study is to compare
the efficacy before and after new ED based psychiatric care system. During intervention period, 34 cases
were included and their characteristics including age, gender, mental status, vital sign, transportation mode
were not significantly different with 22 cases of control period. However, refferal rate(8.8% vs. 81.8%) and
admission rate(5.3% vs. 25.0%) to the pschiatric speciality of the intervention period were significantly
increased. However, lenth of stay in ED was not significantly different. Through the introduction of the
emergent psychiatric care system, it is expected for practitioners to promptly diagnose, properly evaluate
and treat psychiatric emergent patients and also to have the continuous follow-up cares
