This study is an action research that a career education program which is connected to elementary
school social studies is designed and applied. A class of fifth grade in elementary school was used as an
experimental group, and other class that has homogeneous characteristics with the fifth grade class was
used as a control group, for applying treatment tool for this study. In the post-test results of the
homogeneity proved experimental group and the control group, the experimental group had significantly
higher result than the control group in their learning motivation of social studies and sub-factors such as
relevance, confidence, attention and satisfaction. And, significant results were obtained regarding the
perception of career barrier. In the post-test results of the homogeneity proved experimental group and
the control group, the experimental group had significantly higher result than the control group in the
perception of career barrier and sub-factors such as lack of self-understanding, lack of self-confidence,
economic difficulty, uncertainty about future, conflict with important others, lake of vocational information.
Based on the results of the above research, suggestions for career education programs connected to
elementary social studies are as follows. First, the development and dissemination of career education
programs connected to social studies should be further promoted. Second, more programs should be
developed for the third, forth, and sixth grade of elementary school besides the fifth grade of elementary
school. Third, teachers should take part in the career education program connected to a curriculum more
actively and change of their recognition about the career education program is needed.
