This article is a reflection on theories of Confucian democracy which is considered to be necessary for the happiness of Koreans at present. I believe that theories of Confucian democracy are ones that should be appreciated in the process of solving the many challenges that Korean society faces today. I hereby look at the opinions of some political philosophers who argue that the convergence of Confucianism and democracy is necessary even for the development of democracy, and try to assess it accordingly. Theories of Confucian democracy seem to have a virtue that explains both the specific convergence method of tradition and modern culture in the East Asian region where Confucian tradition is alive and the reason why such convergence is necessary in other regions.
