In this paper, This study was to describe the meaning of experiences on personal autonomy of nursing
students. The interview data were collected from university students and analyzed by using descriptive
phenomenology of Colazzi. The procedural steps was that described the phenomenon of interest, collected
participants' descriptions of the phenomenon, extracted the meaning of significant statement, organized the
meaning into them clusters, wrote exhaustive descriptions and then incorporated data into categories.
Through analyzing the process, four categories were deduced (Motivating for improving on major
competency, Focusing on discretionary power, Challenging on fresh activities, and Self disclosure). The
finding have an understanding that experiences on personal autonomy of nursing students. Futhermore, the
author would expected to be applied to developing extracurricular programs for nursing students and
instrument for measuring their autonomy.
