This study investigated life scripts, self-compassion and psychological
well-being of adults with visual impairments. The targets of this study were 227
adults with visual impairments in S city. The questionnaires(life script checklist,
self-compassion scale, psychological well-being scale) were administered to the
subjects. Results of this study are as follows; First, losing script was the most
frequent type of life script, as followed by non-winning and winning scripts. When
the adults with visual impairments were in a difficult time, they were often engaged
in self-activated behavior and held some degree of psychological well-being.
Second, there were significant differences between self-compassion and
psychological well-being among 3 types of life script(losing, winning and
non-winning). Third, there were positive relationships between life scripts,
self-compassion and psychological well-being of adults with visual impairments.
Service providers need to be aware of the type of life script, self-compassion and
psychological well-being of adults with visual impairments and to develop and
operate individualized appropriate programs for them.
