본 연구에서는 ‘EM실천’ 사례를 통해 회복패러다임을 근간으로 지원하는 일의 의미와 해당 경험의 실천적 기제들을 알아보았다. 질적사례연구방법을 활용하여 총 11명의 정신장애인과 사회복지사를 심층 면담하여 자료를 수집하고 주제분석 을 실시했다. EM실천에서 일하는 정신장애인들은 일이 회복과정의 원형이라 여 기면서 일을 통해 일상과 나를 다시 만들고 관계도 다시 쌓아가는 회복의 의미를 찾았다. 일터로서의 EM실천은 어렵게 찾은 적소이며, 개방되어 기다려주는 곳이 었다. 그러나 회복과 생산을 접목하는데 사회복지사들은 모순을 감지하였고, 그 과정에서 수평과 수직이라는 이중적 관계가 생성되고 병립하였다. 이러한 연구결 과를 토대로 경직된 직업재활 구조의 유연화, ‘일’ 범위의 확장, 회복을 근간으로 한 일터의 확대를 제언하였다.
This paper discusses a meaning of work to mentally disabled and the mechanism that makes it possible based on recovery paradigm through the case of EM Practice. We interviewed the mentally disabled and social workers who participated in work support of EM Practice using qualitative case study. Analysis of data shows us that the mentally disabled consider work to be the archetype of recovery and they reconstruct their everyday living, their self and connections to the others through work. EM Practice operates as a hard-finding niche and open work space to the mentally disabled. But social workers perceive the incompatibility between recovery and productivity and acknowledge the existence dual relational pattern― horizontal and vertical relationship. The results underscore the flexibility of vocational rehabilitation system. And we need to expand the meaning of productive work and to multiply work supports for the mentally disabled based on recovery paradigm.
