The purpose of this study is to provide the implications for the direction of safety education and
safety research in the field of early childhood education by analyzing research trends on previous
studies related to children safety. For this purpose, this study analyzed theses and journals related to
children safety from 1995 to 2015 by theme and research method. The results are as follows: First,
the thematic analysis showed that research on ‘Types of safety education’ accounted for the highest
proportion. Next, 'safety awareness', 'effects of safety program and curriculum development', and 'safety
status' were shown in order. Second, in the analysis by research method, the trends of the research
subjects showed that papers about the teachers were the most followed by children, parents, and
infants in order. In the research type, research studies were performed the most, followed by
experimental research, correlation research, literature research, quantitative-qualitative mixed research,
and qualitative research. In data collection methods, questionnaire method, experimental method,
observational method, test method research appeared in quantitative research and observational method,
interview method appeared in order in qualitative research. In the trends of the data analysis method,
quantitative analysis methods such as difference analysis, descriptive statistics, and relationship analysis
showed a high rate, followed by literature research, quantitative-qualitative mixed research, and
qualitative research.
