This study investigated the creative processes from a cognitive psychological perspective using the
Ontology knowledge system. Here is the summary of the meaningful outcomes. First of all, this study
suggested a new approach to explain the creative processes using the Ontology knowledge system in order
to describe the processes in an explicit and systematic way. Specifically, the cognitive processes that
underlie metaphor generation, divergent thinking, and creative expert performance were explained in a
more objective and systematic manner using the Ontology system. Next, we suggested the ways to assess
and develop the different forms of creativity by describing the cognitive processes that underlie diverse
forms of creativity. Finally, we provided a clue to look at the underlying processes of the creative expert
performance by explaining the difference between expertise and creative expert performance. As a result,
this study suggested the different ways to enhance the cognitive processes depending on the purposes of
creativity development, and how to apply them to creativity education and assessment.
