In this paper, a storytelling technique was utilized to expedite learning of ancient characters, which may be abstract and intricate, for the first time learners. It is also designed to utilize various stories to exploit the sentiment of learners to inspire their interest in learning ancient characters and assist them in studying Chinese. The result of learner-oriented bilateral-communication teaching method designed in the order of introduction, development, activity and organization disclosed that, rather than teacher-oriented teaching, the storytelling technique that integrates the four functions of language was effective in learning ancient characters. It can be asserted that this method also brings out the proactive learning attitude and passion for learning from the learners.
