Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a wisdom scale applicable to Korean senior citizens and verified its validity. Method: For developing a wisdom scale, the preliminary question items of the wisdom scale were developed based on the analysis of previous wisdom scales of the literature review and the response analysis of the interview with the elderly. The question items underwent three rounds of verification of content validity and reliability as well as the exploratory factor analysis performed by experts in the field of elderly education. As a result, the draft wisdom scale of for Korean senior citizens was developed. For verifying its validity, verifications of construct validity, convergent validity and discriminant validity, and concurrent validity were analysed. Results: The wisdom scale for Korean senior citizens comprised of a total of 35 question items concerning 4 wisdom factors: creative problem solving, consideration for others, acceptance of changes and meaning of life. Conclusion: The wisdom scale developed in this study is comprehensive enough to measure cognitive, relational and transcendental factors and mirrors well the senior citizens’ values of the times.
