이 연구는 자기결정성 이론에 근거하여 국내 유학 중인 쿠웨이트 유학생의 학습 동기를 살펴보는 데에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 국내 A대학 쿠웨이트 외국인 유학생 33명의 자기결정성 동기 유형의 양상을 조사하였으며, 수집한 자료는 SPSS 20을 사용하여 분석하였다. 자기결정성 학습 동기를 알아 보기 위하여 48개의 질문 문항을 제시하였으며, 각 동기 유형의 내적 신뢰도(Cronbach's α)는 모두 신 뢰할 만한 수준의 내적 일관성을 유지하고 있었다. 분석 결과 쿠웨이트 유학생의 학습 동기는 확인된 조절, 통합된 절, 외적조절, 내적조절, 부과된조절, 무조절 순으로 나타났으며, 그 중에서 확인된조절 과 통합된조절이 지배적인 것으로 나타났다. 쿠웨이트 유학생들은 자신들이 학업하고 있는 국내 대학 에서의 생활에 높은 흥미와 즐거움을 가지고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 또한 한국어 학습의 목표가 개인에 게 어떠한 의미가 있으며, 얼마나 중요한지를 잘 알고 있다는 것을 나타낸다. 그리고 무동기(무조절) 의 수치가 가장 낮게 나타났다는 것은 쿠웨이트 유학생들이 강한 한국어 학습 동기를 가지고 있다는 것을 의미한다. 따라서 이들의 강한 한국어 학습 동기와 흥미 등을 학업 성취도와 연결시킬 수 있는 방안을 적극적으로 모색하는 것이 필요하다
The purpose of this study is to examine the learning motivation of Kuwait students studying abroad based on self - determination theory. Data were analysed using SPSS 20 and some meaningful results are derived; Kuwait international students have a high interest and joy in living in a domestic university where they are studying. It also indicates that the goal of learning Korean is to understand what it means to the individual and how important it is. The lowest level of motivation (no adjustment) means that Kuwait students have a strong motivation to learn Korean. Therefore, it is necessary to actively seek ways to link their strong motivation and interest in learning with academic achievement.
