This Purpose of this study is examine the effect of group art therapy program on self-expression and sociality for students with developmental disability. The Subjects of the study included five elementary students in a special class of P city, and the program consisted of one 80-minute weekly, totaling 15 classes. Self-Directed Assertiveness Scale, K-HTP, Social Maturity Test were utilized in the study. They were administered prior to and after the program, and the changes in results were analyzed. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS/WIN ver 20.0 program, with a Wilcoxon Test. Students' behaviors during each class were observed, recorded and analyzed as part of qualitative analysis. The conclusions from the study are as follows.
First, there were statistically significant differences resulting from the group art therapy program in overall Self-Directed Assertiveness Scale of content, verbal, non-verbal of elementary students with developmental disability. Second, The group art therapy had a statistically significant positive impact on the sociality of the elementary students with developmental disability. Also, K-HTP and portfolio of qualitative analysis had a positive impact on the selt-expression and sociality. Therefore, the study found evidence that group art therapy is effetive in improving self-expression and sociality for elementary students with developmental disability.
