The purpose of this study was to investigate the trends of music therapy in special education through the analysis of journals from 2002 to 2011, and to make some directions for the future development of music therapeutic approach in special education. The targets of this study, total 74 journals was divided by year, subjects, research methods and research contents. The results of this study were listed as follows. First, the results show the number of journals were increasing from 2006 to 2009, but only three to five papers are published from 2010. Second, targets subjects were divided as follows; 22 autism, 15 mental retardations, and 10 ADHD. Third, target research method were divided as follows; 57 quantitative researches, 9 literature researches, 7 qualitative research. Fourth, target number of research contents was as follows; the field of behavior was the highest, 23.8%.
