A number of references in the historical materials make it clear that the flower youth corps were real and that represented a Shilla\'s institution. But, most references do not form a clear picture of what sort of institution it was. Kim Dae-Moon, in Annals of the Flower Youth Corps(Hwarangsegi), remarks: \"Henceforth sagacious councillors and loyal ministers are chosen from them, and good generals and brave soldiers are born therefrom.\" But during the colonial period, its true nature was distorted by Imamura Tomoe, Ayugai Fusanoshin, Ikeuchi Hiroshi, and Mishina Akihide. Such intent and attitude held by those Japanese scholars should be denounced outrightly, and their studies must be renewed necessarily from our own viewpoint. According to the historical materials, the followings can be stated exactly:the main aims
of the flower youth corps were to find the young talented people, and to recommend them for the royal court. Their educational aims were to cultivate ability and morality of the elite youth. Their educational methods were the group education for cooperative spirit, the life-centered education for self-activity, and the direct observation for intuition.
