The purpose of this research was investigate relationship between maternal behaviors and self-determination of mental retardation child. For this research, 15 mental retardation middle and high special school students(IQ 55-70) in Daegu city, 15 their parents, and 4 their teachers participated. Hoffman, Field, Sawilowsky\' Self-Determination Teacher Perception Scale(TPS) interpreted by Bang Myoung-Ae(2001) and Self- Determination Student Scale(SDSS) interpreted by Park Gi-Young(2003) to measure children\'s self-determination and Schaefer\' Maternal Behavior Research Instrument(MBRI) interpreted by Yang, Kyum-A(2000) to measure parents\'s maternal behaviors were used. To testify the relationship of maternal behavior of parents and self-determination of mental retardation child, correlation coefficient was used. The results of this research demonstrated high correlation between parents\' maternal behaviors and children\'s self-determinations. It suggested that parents\' maternal behaviors had a positive relationship with children\'s self-determinations. Thus this results suggested that parents\' desirable maternal behavior and its education is important and necessary for self-determinations of children with disability that is a important component of successful transition to adulthood.
