The importance of understanding disabilities has increased as the concept of understanding disabilities has developed from a medical model to a social model and as considering the problem of disabilities as the problem of “within the society\". This study, therefore, investigated the value of picture books as a strategy to help young children understand disabilities and analyzed three types of picture books about disabilities with 10 criteria. The three analysis cases of picture books about disabilities in accordance with the criteria that it should increase the empathy and acceptance of the children with disabilities, demonstrate the success or success after failure and positive image, provide children with an accurate understanding on disabilities, represent the respect for children with disabilities, and describe disabilities not as supermen or unable persons, but as a real person. This study enabled the teachers in kindergartens and day care centers to select and utilize appropriate picture books which are useful to understand the disabilities for the successful inclusive education.
