The time of enlightenment of Europe in the later part of the 17th century to the end of the 18th century has very important implication in the history of the philosophy in ethics. First, the philosophy in ethics deviated from the authority and tradition of church to secure its independence. And, second, the philosophy in ethics was placed with the foundation together with the interpretation of Kant on the ethics. Therefore, in order to understand the true nature of ethics in the time of enlightenment, it would be necessary to take a look at the development process from Hobbes to Kant. The Kant philosophy in the 1750s was focused on the physics of Newton and the rationalism of Wolff, and at this period of time, the issues on morality was not the matter of critical interests. However, the Kant philosophy in 1760s began to breakaway from the rationalism of Wolff with the influence of Crusius, Hume, and Rousseau. The issues on ethics had become the key interests for him. In other words, the interests on nature had shifted into the interests on human. Such an interest on human and interest on ethics of Kant would bring a great implication for the contemporary people who live in materialistic era today.
