The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between young children\'s cognitive styles and emotional intelligence. The hypothesis of the study was that there was significant differences in the major emotional intelligence factors(i.e. recognition and expression of self emotion, adjustment of self-emotion, the use of self-emotion, recognition and care for others\' emotion and personal relation skill) between field independence cognitive styles group and field dependence cognitive styles group. Cognitive styles test was administered to a total of 244 young children attending at A and C Kindergarten in Gumi City, Kyongbook Province. The instruments for the study were Preschool Embedded Figures Test(PEFT) and Emotional Intelligence Rating Sacle for Preschool Children. Data were processed by the t-test. The results of the study were as follows; First, field independent children showed higher degree of recognition and expression of self-emotion, and the use of self-motion than field dependent children, while field dependent children showed higher degree of recognition and care for others, and personal relation skill than field independent children. Second, there was no difference between field dependent and field independent children in the self-emotion control of emotional intelligence. Third, field independent children scored higher than field dependent children in emotional intelligence.
