굿은 단순히 반복되는 것이 아니라 상황에 따라 현장에서 새롭게 재생산된다. 연행 및 전승 맥락 속에서 씻김굿의 예술성과 연희성이 어떻게 실현되고 전승돼왔는지 진도씻김굿을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 씻김굿의 특징으로 거론되는 예술성과 연희성은 고정적인 자질로 규정되지 않는다. 연희성이나 예술성은 굿의 상황이나 목적에 따라 다층적으로 존재한다. 굿의 성격이나 규모, 상황 등에 따라 확대되기도 하고, 축소되기도 하면서 가변적으로 존재한다. 씻김굿의 예술성은 지속적인 전통이기도 하다. 전통적으로 진도씻김굿은 예술적 지향성을 강하게 띠면서 전승돼왔다. 진도라는 문화권 자체가 그것을 가능하게 하는 환경이었다. 그리고 전승환경의 변화 속에서 주민들의 종교적 신심이나 굿의 제의성이 약화되어 가는 가운데, 무의식을 유지하고 재생산하기 위해 상대적으로 강조되어 왔다. 특히 문화재 지정과 관련해 그런 현상이 더욱 두드러지게 나타났다. 이처럼 진도씻김굿의 예술적․연희적 지향성은 다른 부문과의 관계 속에서 위상을 달리 해왔으며, 상대적으로 강화되어오는 과정 속에서 중요한 특징으로 부각되었다.
Gut is not merely repeated but newly reproduced on the spot in accordance with the situation. We confirmed how artistic quality and dramatic quality of Sitkimgut was performed and transmitted in the context of performance and transmission. Artistic quality and dramatic quality which are referred as the characteristic of Sitkimgut are not defined as unchanged quality. Artistic quality and dramatic quality are changeable in existence, enlarged and reduced by character or scale of gut, and situation. One of the artistic qualities of sitkimgut is its continuous tradition. Traditionally, Sitkimgut of chindo has been transmitted with intention to pursue artistic quality strongly. Chingdo, a cultural zone, itself was the surroundings that enabled it. And in change of transmission circumstance, religious faith of residents or religious quality of gut became weakened. And with this background, artistic quality relatively has been stressed to maintain and reproduce the ritual of shamanism. Especially in connection with designation of cultural assets, such phenomenon was much more displayed. Like this the pursuit of artistic and dramatic quality of chindo sitkimgut has been in different position in relation with different part and was brought into the light as the important characteristic in the process of relative reinforcement.
